In Part one of this paper, Simple SEO Techniques, we looked at how to identify your niche's keywords, how to design your web site domain name, and how to submit your web site to search and directory engines. I this part (part two) we will dig deeper into seo and see how to improve our web site's page ranking.
Now your web site is up and running and it has been submitted to lots of search engines and web directories, but no traffic is coming your web site's way. If your niche is not too competitive, your web site might have already made it to the first page of Google search results. In that case you may have some traffic already. If not, don't worry the few actions, described below, will hopefully ensure that your web site gets some traffic.
The first thing you want to do to improve your web site's seo is to provide it with some quality content. The better the quality of your web site's content, the more it is able to attract users, and the easier it can keep these users coming back for more. If you have the time, it's far better to write your own content, otherwise you can either buy some content cheaply, or copy some from web sites which permit their content to be freely copied. Be sure to check and verify any license conditions before copying content from any web site.
Writing your own content may seem difficult to start with but, believe me; once you get started you will find it easy and enjoyable. I do most of my writing in the train while traveling to work. It is only a half an hour journey, but it does accumulate with time. It is important to write your own content because the next few things we will discuss require manipulation of your web site's content to make it suitable for search engine indexing.
Your content should be relevant to your web site's niche and each page should contain the keyword it targets at least three times. In one of the three occurrences that keyword should be highly visible. If you know html, it should be within an h1 tag, if not just make sure at least one occurrence of that key word is bolded and enlarged to about three times the size of normal text.
Preferably, that keyword should be within a hyper link. There are no hard or fast rules to explain why we do this; other than the fact that it is the result of trail and error experimentation by people seeking to decode search engine secretive algorithms.
Search engines allocate a higher ranking to web sites with a dynamic content. Dynamic content is content which is updated often. Try to update your web site content daily if you can. Including an RSS feed, or a feedback form (use your provider's Fantastico feature to install this), is great for making your web site content update frequently.
Once you have written some decent content, you can start using it to drive traffic to your web site. The way you do this is by submitting some of that content to as many article publishers as possible, such as ezine.com, etc. Submit your articles one at a time and keep updating them as you update your web site content.
The reason submitting articles to article publishers works so well, to improve your web site's page ranking, is because search engines check article publishers web sites often and allocate a higher ranking to these web sites. When surfers visit these pages, they will hit your links and end up in your web site. Obviously, you can't submit any content, to article publishers, if you have not written it yourself; and this is part of the reason why I earlier recommended that you have a go at writing your own content.
Another method which is great for improving your web site's ranking, and driving more traffic to it, is publishing videos. Ever wondered why so many people publish free videos in sites such as YouTube? Well, now you know; it's the number one trick to drive a lot of traffic to your web site. If you do make some videos, make sure you publish them on as many web sites as possible.
The next hurdle in the road to concur seo is the slow building of quality back-links. Why slow? Well, if you suddenly spring up lots of back-links to your web site, search engines may classify your web site as spam den; which can seriously hinder your seo effort. So, take it easy and slowly build these quality back-links.
There are lots of ways to find quality sites where you can establish back-links to your web site. Some people use software tools to search for such web sites, while some others just search the net using Google, etc. For web sites which don't provide a facility to add links, you may need to email them to request if they can link to your web site. Software tools, such as Web CEO, can help you find and organize emails and lists of web sites to contact. One easy way to add links to your website is to participate in discussion forums. For example Yahoo Answers is a good place to start with. Make sure that the discussions, you participate in, and answers you provide, are reasonable and lead surfers to the correct pages in your web site.
One easy way, to find out which web sites to use for back-links, is by checking where the competition's back-links are placed. Simply, enter your keywords one at a time into Google search, and note your top five competitors; then for each of one of them, enter their full web site address into the Google search; and viola the list of web sites where their back-links are placed. Visit each web site and place a back-link to your web site next to theirs.
These are the simple seo techniques, which I use and recommend you to use; I hope, I have succeeded in describing these steps well enough to allow you to follow them; and I welcome your improvements and suggestions.
